Mathews County East River/Mobjack Bay
Put in at the landing just below the courthouse on Put In Creek with my fishing friend Gerald from Kanapolis NC. We ran out to the Mobjack Bay just off Diggs Wharf and the swells got bigger than I was ready to deal with in my Lowe 1700 "fresh water"rig. We got back in the channel of the East River and rode the 5:30 pm tide back upstream. Two bottom rigs with shrimp and two casting rigs with redhead jigs and assorted colors of grubs mainly white and chartruse. Croaker were hitting the shrimp and speck were hitting the grubs. All in all 13 croaker, the largest I've all year and 1 keeper speck (16"). We were hoping for some flatties but none to be found. All I can say is that this is one pretty stretch of water, can't wait to get back.
sounds like a productive day! nice..
